I simply used brew
to put in the newest GNU Display. Afterwards, I observed that man display
exhibits a bunch of rubbish traces. The person web page shows because it ought to however as soon as I exit I see a bunch of traces like:
mandoc: /usr/native/share/man/man1/display.1:711:4: UNSUPP: ignoring macro in desk: br
mandoc: /usr/native/share/man/man1/display.1:713:4: UNSUPP: ignoring macro in desk: br
mandoc: /usr/native/share/man/man1/display.1:721:4: UNSUPP: ignoring macro in desk: br
mandoc: /usr/native/share/man/man1/display.1:730:4: UNSUPP: ignoring macro in desk: br
mandoc: /usr/native/share/man/man1/display.1:750:2: UNSUPP: ignoring macro in desk: I display
mandoc: /usr/native/share/man/man1/display.1:1463:4: UNSUPP: ignoring macro in desk: br
mandoc: /usr/native/share/man/man1/display.1:1469:4: UNSUPP: ignoring macro in desk: br
mandoc: /usr/native/share/man/man1/display.1:1475:4: UNSUPP: ignoring macro in desk: br
Some googling suggests it is because Apple’s man
is utilizing mandoc as an alternative of roff
or any variant thereof, and that mandoc would not help formatting within tables.
I do not notably care that I am not getting all of the formatting meant for this man web page, because it seems to be high-quality and utterly readable. However I do not need all the rubbish displayed after I exit the person web page.
How can I do away with this?
(I am open to options which might suppress the error, options which might drive man
to make use of groff or related so I get all formatting, and options which might exchange man
completely so it is now not hardcoded to make use of mandoc.)
That is on Mac OS 12.7.1.
